16 Volunteers!
Saturday, April 25th, 2026, was a busy day. 16 volunteers showed up for the first Carmel Owls 'Build an Owl Platform' day. And we successfully built 14 platforms:
staffing the Sign In and Supplies tables
drill-pressing female mounts and table sawing bundles of shingles
lots of screws inserted by impact drivers
screwing in bracing, including L brackets
drilling holes for the tree mount, affixing washers, lock washers & nuts
staple-gunning shingles then trimming them off with an oscillating multitool
staining platforms by some newfound Picassos!
Thanks again to all our volunteers. Seven platforms will be installed in Carmel Valley for the Phase 3 Deployment. The remaining platforms (and once we build five more) are earmarked for Phases 4 and 5, tentatively scheduled in September 2026 for Carmel, Carmel Highlands, Carmel Knolls, Carmel Vista, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, and Monterey.
The next 'Build an Owl Platform' day will be in August. Watch out for the newsletter announcing the signup. We'll be looking for five teams to build five platforms from assembly to shingles, and four additional teams to complete three partial platforms (bracing and shingling) plus at least three Picassos for staining eight platforms.
